Tackling the Threat of Cybersecurity: Dr Simon Moores

Computing, Digital Forensics and Cybersecurity students and staff were delighted to welcome the return of Dr Simon Moores (www.drmoores.com) as a guest speaker on Tuesday 28th November 2017.

SIMON Headshot

Simon is a security and technology futurist, a disruptive technologist, a security/risk consultant, social media expert, international conference keynote speaker and chair of the annual international eCrime Congress.  Simon appears regularly on national/international television/radio as an analyst and technology expert while also making frequent contributions to leading national/international newspapers, magazines and journals.

Simon gave an inspirational and well received presentation on IT security emphasising the shortage of computing security specialists and the employment opportunities this afforded to recent graduates.

Simon emphasised the scale and growth, in terms of both volume and range, of IT security breaches along with the associated increased risk and impact.  Simon went on to discuss the recent shift in organisational emphasis away from the, near impossible, task of preventing IT security breaches to that of mitigating their effects and how the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning could help to quickly identify threats/breaches.

We would like to extend a big thank you to Dr Simon Moores for taking the time to return to us to provide, yet again, another inspirational talk.
